The carbon film resistor explained

The above image shows you the inner workings of a carbon film resistor. As you can see in the image above the more space there is in the carbon film spiral the resistance will be low and when there is less space in the carbon film spiral the resistance will be high.

Color Bands

The above image gives you a visual explanation of how the color bands or color coding on a resistor works. Please keep in mind that on a band resistor, the third color is your multiplier(the number of zeros to add), on a 5-band resistor the 4th color will be your multiplier.
