Description

Introducing the PIC16F684! This versatile microcontroller was designed with the hobbyist in mind, delivering quality performance and features without breaking the bank. With 14 pins, an 8-bit data bus, and 2048x14 words of program memory, you get a device capable of 20MHz maximum frequency that won't take up too much of your prototyping space.

The PIC16F range of microcontrollers from Microchip is 8-bit MCUs that incorporate Microchip’s PIC® architecture into a variety of pin and package options, from space-efficient 14-pin devices to feature-rich 64-pin devices. Devices with Baseline, Mid-Range, or Enhanced Mid-Range architecture are available with numerous different peripheral combinations, giving designers flexibility and choice for their applications.

The PIC16F684 family of microcontrollers is based upon Microchip’s Mid-range core with an 8-level deep hardware stack and 35 instructions. These MCUs provide up to 5 MIPS, 3.5 Kbytes program memory, 128 bytes RAM, and Data EEPROM of 256 bytes. On board is a configurable oscillator factory calibrated to ±1% accuracy.

How To Program The PIC Chip

The above video shows you how to program the PIC Chip as well as tells you more about microcontrollers. The PIC12F683 can only be programmed with the IDE the above video shows you, other PIC microcontroller chips should be programmed in the same manner.

Equipment required to program and how to use it

The above video will show you what you need to be able to program the PIC microcontroller chips. The PIC microcontroller chips don't have a bootloader so you will require a PICKit programmer to be able to program the PIC microcontroller chip.
